For two weekends in November wine lovers can enjoy a relaxing time in New York’s wine country. The Lake Erie Wine Country, formally known as the Chautauqua/ Lake Erie Wine Trail, is hosting its 10th annual Harvest Wine Weekend.
November 6-7 and 13-14, take a drive up to wine country and enjoy all the delicious wines, and their parings, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Twenty wineries will be participating in the wine weekend, celebrating the end of the harvest season.
This year, for $35 per person you will receive a complimentary wineglass, a gift, food, a recipe book, a $5 wine voucher and wine with a food pairing at each winery. Designated Drivers will receive a $15 discount, as well as a wineglass, recipe book, gift and food during the weekend.
Each ticket is valid throughout the entire weekend it was purchased for.
“It’s an excellent value for a really nice weekend,” said Julie Pfadt, executive director of Lake Erie Wine Country.
Becoming ever more popular, food pairing is taking off. Food pairing is when a certain food item is specially selected to complement the wine that it is being served.
“(Food pairing) is just a very popular thing right now,” Pfadt said. “People are interest in food pairing. They want to learn what tastes good with what types of wine. And each winery will have a different part of the meal, so they’ll all have a little bit different things.”
All of the delicious food, as well as the wines paired with it, will be featured in the recipe book each visitor will receive.
And if you are hesitant to come because you don’t know much about wine, Pfadt says that is no reason to worry.
“What we’re hoping to do is educate people and take the time to talk with them and let them know why the foods are being paired with that particular wine. It is a great time to learn about it and relax … you just come prepared to learn and be adventurous tasters and you’ll find something you love.”
Because people will be driving themselves from winery to winery, Lake Erie Wine Country strongly encourages people to have a designated driver (DD) to take them from one winery to another and back home. But, even with a DD, it is a good idea to taste responsibly.
Lake Erie Wine Country hopes to sell 600 tickets for each weekend, so hurry up and get your tickets now. You can buy them online at www.chautauquawinetrail.org or by calling 1-877-326-6561.
