Taryn Miletti opens a new world for water lovers

Written for The Villager

Born in Jamestown, N.Y. and raised in Lakewood, Taryn Miletti has brought a new outdoor adventure to Chautauqua Lake.

Returning to the area after living in New York City for three years, Miletti brought her new passion for stand-up paddle boarding back with her.
“Right after I tried it (paddle boarding) I thought it would be a great thing to do in this area,” Miletti said.
Miletti had just tried paddleboarding in May on a visit to Naples, Florida.
“I fell in love with it,” Miletti said. “I was going to buy a board for myself, but then I decided to take it further … it’s a great sport to get going in the area.”

However, this is not Miletti’s first runaround with sports.
“I’ve always been pretty athletic,” she said. “I always need to be doing something.”
Miletti began her adventure with water when she was 5 years old through boating and has been dabbling in all types of sports ever since.
Miletti graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in biology, but decided that a job in biology wasn’t what she wanted anymore.
“Right now I’m trying to figure out what my next step is going to be,” Miletti said.
But, she continued, this is the best place to do so.
“It’s the perfect way to spend my summer,” she said. “You just can find anyplace like Chautauqua Lake.”
Miletti’s new paddle boarding company “Board Now” just opened last week, but has already had over 50 rentals. She’s had people as young as 6 and as old as 60 come to rent her boards.
“They’re beginning boards so they are very stable,” she said. “I always give a 10-minute tutorial, but if someone needs a longer lesson then I do charge $20 for an hour lesson.”
Anyone can board Miletti said. “I’ve only had people who have never boarded before.”
Miletti offers three different ways for people to rent: one-hour, two-hours and half-day rentals for $20, $35 and $75. She has four boards she can rent out an Miletti provides free delivery for anywhere on the lake that people want to paddle board.
People can rent a board or two seven days a week. People just need to call and set up an appointment.
“I don’t need that much notice, even the day of is fine,” she added. However, a day ahead is preferable.
Miletti’s main location is across the street from The Hotel Lenhart weekdays, but relocates to Longpoint on weekends in her green and white boat covered with signs promoting Board Now.
However, this chance to paddle board will not last forever. Miletti said she’ll probably wrap up her season right after Labor Day, so don’t hesitate to give her a call. Miletti can be reached at 716-640-1269 or you can even check out her Facebook page Board Now.
“I started this company and I am doing this to get people involved, it’s not so much about the money … it’s amazing to go out in calm water and paddle,” she said. “It’s so peaceful. It’s the closest to walking on water as you can get.”
But don’t worry; she will be back next year with more paddle boarding. She even hopes to expand to Ellicottville and Bradford when she returns again for the summer.
