Uncork some bottles and enjoy the music! That’s what 2,000 people are expected to do Saturday August 14 and Sunday the 15 at the third annual America’s Grape Country Wine Festival. The festival will be taking place in the heart of this wine region at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
Each day will feature wine seminars where both drinkers and makers can learn a little more about different wines and the process each bottle of wine goes through. With each ticket purchased, people will receive “a parking pass, commemorative wineglass, a tasters guide and will be able many bands,” said Amy Masters, a public relations representative and graphic artist for Merritt Wines. Crowd members will be able to enjoy the musical stylings of “Boneshakers Blues Band” and “US” Saturday, followed by “Heard of Buffalo” and “Side Effect” on Sunday.
Expanded from last year, over 30 different wineries will be represented at the festival, each offering wine samplings. Also, each winery will be having bottles available for purchase. To go along with a day of wine, there will be many different food vendors and agricultural venders represented as well: Bakers Chocolate, Bettylaine’s Hotdogs, Charlie’s Curly Fries, Millie’s Dawgs and The Bavarian Nut Company are the vendors; Balwin Hill Farms, LLC, Franklin’s Honey and Apple Farms and Yerico Farms are the agricultural vendors attending.
And for those worried about how much alcohol they are consuming throughout the day, there will be a DWI tent where people will be able to check there BAC levels to make sure they are staying under the legal limit. But, don’t forget, it is never a bad idea to have a Designated Driver (DD) for the festival. The festival has special pricing just for those attending as DD’s.
Along with food and wine, the festival has many crafters attending too such as, Grape County Candles, Just One to Wear and many others.
“This festival is great for wine lovers to learn more about wine,” Masters said. “This event will teach you a lot about wine and where it comes from.”
The festival also serves as a promotion event for the wineries as well. Beth Margolis from Liberty Vineyards and Winery says it is a great event to advertise their wines. “It’s a really nice for us,” Margolis said. “More people try our wines … it gets our wine out there for a whole new customer base to try.”
