As children grow up, their belief in Santa Claus and the spirit of Christmas dwindles, but one local woman is trying to change that.
Elizabeth “Betsy” Stayer, a former teacher, noticed that during the ages of 7-9 children stopped believing in Santa Claus.
However, she decided to help keep the spirit alive in children as long as possible by writing a book encompassing that all so magical belief in Christmas.
“I wrote a book to help them believe,” Stayer said. “I wanted them to believe longer.”
While teaching, she wrote a story and read it to her class every year around Christmas time – that book later came to be known as “Santa’s Magic Stardust.”
The book was published last December and includes full-page illustrations by former Salamanca art teacher Linda Sciandra.
The magical story and takes place on the back roads from Buffalo to Ellicottville. While traveling through the rural roads, Nonnie, Papa and their two little granddaughters spotted up high on a hill Santa Claus and his reindeer.
While Santa and his gang were out for a test drive and getting ready for his big flight, the family runs to greet Santa to find out that he ran out of gas and is stuck upon the hilltop unless the reindeer eat their special reindeer food. Santa gives the kids the list of ingredients needed for the reindeer’s food and off the four go on an adventure to send Santa back to the North Pole. Once back, Santa mixes all the ingredients together, feeds the reindeer and all the sudden the reindeer are ready to fly.
The story ends with a cute, little twist that will fill everyone with the belief in the Christmas magic they once had as a child.
Included on the last page of the book is Stayer’s very own recipe for reindeer food so that you too can make it with your family!
Stayer’s book is available at authorhouse.com, Barnes & Nobles, Boarders and through Stayer herself. She can be reached at 716-372-0349. She does remind us all that “the magic of Christmas lies in your heart.”
So Ellicottville, remember that as you enjoy this holiday season and all that comes with it.
