Starry Night in the Garden: Three stars come to rock the Botanical Gardens

Written for The Villager

Do you ever dream of a sitting outside at night as the stars light the sky and beautiful plants surround you as you listen to great music? Well, you don’t have to keep dreaming about it too much longer. Star 102.5 and The Buffalo Botanical Gardens are making your dreams come true June 29.

The gates will open for Starry Night in the Garden 6 p.m., but the night really gets started once Secondhand Serenade’s John Vesely wows the crowd around 6:15 p.m.
After Vesely, Michelle Branch will perform, followed by the headliner Hanson.
Some of you may be shocked by the line up because Christina Perri was to perform but had to cancel on Tuesday because of a vocal cord injury. However, Star 102.5 was able to keep a great show going with Grammy Award-winner Michelle Branch.

Branch is expected to play for about 30 minutes and Hanson will perform between 45 and 60 minutes.
Just as last year, Star 102.5 is offering guests two ticket options: general admission and VIP.
Each ticket comes with wineglasses, but general admission includes food and wine samplings from over 30 different providers for $40. The VIP tickets offer catered food throughout the evening, a bar and prime seating during the event for $100.
The show is a family friendly, but only those 21 and over will receive wine bracelets.
Sue O’Neil, operating manager and on-air host, believes that this year’s event will attract over 2,800 people.
O’Neil points out that this expected number will really help to benefit promoting The Buffalo Botanical Gardens.
Each year Starry Night in the Garden donates some of the proceeds to The Botanical Gardens, totaling about $10,000-$15,000 a year. As this is the event’s 11th year, Star 102.5 expects to have raised over $250,000 over the years.
“The Botanical Gardens is a magical place,” O’Neil said. “This year is the first year the gardens will be without help from the county. The more people who come the more help we can give them.”
O’Neil hopes that this event will help remind people of what a great family place The Botanical Gardens are and increase the garden’s memberships.
For the most part people stand while enjoying the festivities but some do bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on, O’Neil said.
“It’s like a Garden Party,” O’Neil said. “Men wear khakis and dress shirts, women wear cute capris and wander around enjoying the food and listening to the music … The Buffalo Botanical Gardens is one of the oldest gardens in the country.”
Those who may be worried about parking for the show can relax because there is plenty of parking available at the Gardens and in the surrounding areas as well.
Doors open at 6 p.m., but O’Neil does encourage people to get their early to line up for the show. Starry Night in the Garden is expected to last until 9 p.m.
Tickets are still available on tickets.com, but O’Neil isn’t sure for how long.
“The tickets will be available until they are sold out or until the day of the event,” O’Neil said.
